Position Overview
The Senior Procurement Specialist plays a critical role in managing tactical sourcing and procurement execution for the Ambernath site. The role supports mid‑term sourcing plans, ensures continuity of supply through close supplier collaboration, and serves as a key link between strategic sourcing and operational execution.
Working closely with Global and Local Procurement teams, this position ensures compliance with procurement policies while supporting both Direct and Indirect procurement categories. The role also involves partial ownership of ERP‑based procurement processes and contributes to cost optimization, risk mitigation, and supplier performance management.
Key Responsibilities
ü Execute tactical procurement activities and support mid-term sourcing plans
ü Manage supplier relationships with national and international vendors, including negotiation and contract execution within defined frameworks
ü Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand and fulfill short- to mid-term demand
ü Conduct market and industry analysis to support sourcing decisions
ü Monitor supplier performance and lead corrective actions when necessary
ü Support risk management initiatives related to supplier disruptions or external influences
ü Ensure compliance with corporate procurement policies and procedures
ü Work closely with Global and Local Procurement teams to ensure alignment and efficiency
Scope:
ü Indirect Goods & Services: CAPEX investments, MRO and technical services, laboratory consumables, and general services supporting Ambernath operations.
ü Direct Materials: Key starting materials and raw materials used in the production of Peptide APIs (e.g., amino acid derivatives, coupling reagents, resins, solvents, process chemicals, and critical intermediates), within approved supplier and quality frameworks.
ü Site scope: Ambernath plant - covers end-to-end tactical procurement execution, in alignment with Global/Local Procurement policies.
Strategic Sourcing, Contracting & Negotiation
ü Supplier search & selection: identify potential suppliers, run RFx where applicable, coordinate cross-functional evaluation (e.g. Engineering/Finance), support due diligence and qualification steps, and onboard suppliers in line with procurement and quality requirements.
ü Support the development, implementation and monitoring of the category / sourcing strategies.
ü Identify, implement and report cost savings initiatives of purchased goods & services, supplier consolidation and leverage opportunity, service delivery improvements, process efficiencies, risk mitigation and standardization while driving for a highly responsive supply chain.
ü Draft, negotiate, close and track & trace supplier contracts (e.g. in the area of supply, development, equipment, etc.) that minimize risk exposure and provide optimal terms and conditions. Anticipate and resolve implementation barriers in a timely fashion.
Market/Supplier Intelligence
ü Monitor the supplier market and identify opportunities resulting from new product offerings and/or market shifts (e.g., entry or exit of suppliers' changes in pricing, etc).
ü Maintain and routinely report major commodity pricing trends, provide summary of expected supplier price changes, and use economic information to challenge supplier price increases.
Supplier Relationship Management
ü Support/Lead and manage the new supplier evaluation and qualification process by collaborating with Quality Assurance and technical / chemical support to find suppliers that will best meet product specifications; support business objectives; and offer the best value at the least risk.
ü Develop and continuously manage and improve relationship with suppliers.
ü Address supplier non-conformances and performance issues by engaging cross-functional team members to develop risk response plans to minimize supply disruptions.
Suppliers & Material Qualification
ü Perform business assessment and support technical assessment at suppliers.
ü Support GMP requirements and specification harmonization (if applicable).
ü Support tech transfer projects (raw material and supplier qualification) between PolyPeptide sites and/or suppliers (if applicable).
ü Participate in quality audits when applicable and agreed with QA.
ESG & Sustainability
ü Support sourcing practices and contribute to ESG and sustainability goals by engaging suppliers on compliance, transparency, and environmental standards
Stakeholder Management
ü Ensure the engagement of key stakeholders early in the strategic sourcing process and ensure a consistent, objective and transparent approach is maintained at all times.
ü Ensure communication in interaction between global and local procurement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
ü Solid understanding of pharmaceutical GMP requirements related to procurement and supplier management.
ü Ability to manage time‑sensitive material requirements and work effectively under pressure.
ü Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
ü Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective engagement with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
ü Proficiency in MS Office applications.
Educational Qualification
ü Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
ü 3+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain operations, preferably in a regulated manufacturing environment.
ü Strong experience managing Indirect Goods & Services categories (e.g., CAPEX, MRO, facilities, technical services).
ü Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, MS Dynamics / AX).
Professional Experience
ü Experience managing Direct Materials categories (e.g., starting materials, solvents, reagents).
ü Knowledge of peptide synthesis raw materials and relevant sourcing markets.
ü Exposure to regional or international sourcing and category management.
ü Experience working with procurement analytics tools or dashboards.
ü Fluency in business‑level English.
